April – A Girls Best Friend? The Diamond Birthstone
Whatever month you were born in, there will be a gemstone that represents that time of year. Much like horoscopes they have different means and symbolise different things. If you were born in the Spring month of April, then you are lucky enough to have the diamond as your birthstone. Diamonds have long been associated with glitz and glamour and the modern-day wearing of diamonds is no exception. That is before we even get onto the fact that diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

Diamonds have been admired and sought-after for centuries, dating as far back as 4BC. We now
know the process for diamonds being made is them being formed beneath the Earth’s crust and
then forced upwards. However, before this was understood diamonds were believed to be lighting
made real. For this reason, diamonds have always been associated with healing powers. Very many years ago it was thought that they could remove toxins from the blood and even cure brain disease. On top of this, we all know that diamond is seen as a symbol of love. The fact that it represents eternal and lasting love is one of the reasons why it is the most popular gemstone on engagement rings and other special gifts for loved ones. Generally speaking, white diamonds are the most popular and people definitely want a gemstone with a good sparkle. However, you can also get diamonds in different colours, all symbolising true love.
Why Do People Wear Diamonds?
Diamonds have been seen as a bit of glamour and luxury, so they have always been popular with
people of status. Many famous people are known for wearing diamonds including Marilyn Monroe, who famously declared that diamonds were a girl’s best friend. As they are seen as such symbols of everlasting love, they’re also used to represent the 60th wedding anniversary, so are often given as a celebration of this milestone. Of course, you don’t need an excuse to buy a diamond so if you’re looking to treat yourself or a friend, why not just go for it?
The Importance of Looking After Your Diamonds Correctly.
As you can imagine, a precious stone such as a diamond really does take some looking after. There are different types of diamond and different carats, however, they’ll all have cost you money so it stands to reason you’ll want to make sure they stay in great condition.
If you decide you wish to clean your diamond jewellery make sure you stay away from harsh
chemicals. Anything with bleach or strong cleaning agents in is likely to cause the diamond to
become discoloured – and it might well damage the metal of your jewellery too. Slightly warm,
soapy water is okay, just avoid leaving it in the water too long and never scrub it too hard.
Something like a soft-bristled toothbrush can be ideal for cleaning previous gems such as diamonds, so there is no harm in having something like this to hand. Use a microfiber towel to dry it once you have given it a clean and never try to rub it too hard.
Once it is clean, if you’re looking to store it away it’s important to get this part right. Investing in
some property storage is a must if you want your jewellery to stay in good condition. Simply
throwing it in a box alongside your other jewellery will mean that it is at risk of getting damaged – after all, jewellery is metal and could scratch against each other causing damage.
On top of that, where you choose to store the box needs to be considered too. Precious gemstones
really should be kept away from any extremes of heat and especially away from direct sunlight. Try to store the box somewhere in your house where this is unlikely to happen – and where it is unlikely to get knocked off and damaged too!
Whether you’re looking to buy a diamond because you were born in April, or just because you fancy treating yourself to something sparkly, there are lots of jewellers you can buy from. Just make sure that you look up who you are going to buy from so you can be sure they’re legit and what you’re getting is going to be a worthy investment. Check their website for information, look up customer reviews and never be afraid to ask them any questions you have. Buying something like this is important, so any reputable jeweller will be glad to help you make sure you get it right.
